The federal government has launched a probe into SpaceX after a man who is not a lawful permanent resident of the United States complained when he was passed over for a job with the California rocket maker.
CNBC reports, “The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating SpaceX over whether the company discriminates against non-U.S. citizens in its hiring practices and said Elon Musk’s company is stonewalling a subpoena for information, court documents revealed Thursday.”
According to CNBC, “The DOJ’s Immigrant and Employee Rights Section received a complaint of employment discrimination from a non-U.S. citizen claiming that the company discriminated against him based on his citizenship status.”
SpaceX has been awarded several contracts by the federal government, mostly from NASA and the Department of Defense, including national security missions.
An attorney with the Justice Department said SpaceX has refused to provide documents about its employees, such as copies of Social Security cards, passports, and driver licenses, even after the information had been subpoenaed.
In a court document filed in the United States District Court for the central district of California, the feds requested a judge order SpaceX to comply with the administrative subpoena within two weeks.
The filing indicated the DOJ began looking into the aerospace company last year after receiving the complaint in May.
“The charge alleges that on or about March 10, 2020, during the Charging Party’s interview for the position of Technology Strategy Associate, SpaceX made inquiries about his citizenship status and ultimately failed to hire him for the position because he is not a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident,” wrote DOJ attorney Lisa Sandoval in the court document.
The DOJ’s Immigrant and Employee Rights Section (IER) reportedly said it notified SpaceX about the probe in June via email and had requested the company turn over the employment data then. The letter indicated that the investigation “may also explore whether [SpaceX] engages in any pattern or practice of discrimination” prohibited by law.
The company responded in August, according to the court filing, sending a Form I-9 spreadsheet but without the requested supporting documentation. IER obtained a subpoena in October.

More details from CNBC:
SpaceX filed a petition with a DOJ administrative tribunal to dismiss the subpoena on grounds that it exceeded the scope of IER’s authority, but that petition was denied, and SpaceX was ordered to comply. IER said SpaceX on Dec. 11 acknowledged the order but told IER “that it ‘does not intend to produce any additional information in response to the administrative subpoena.’”
In the court filing, Sandoval said the subpoenaed documents are “highly relevant because they demonstrate, among other things, the extent to which SpaceX hires non-U.S. citizens and may reveal whether or not it is engaging in a pattern of not hiring them due to their citizenship status.”
She continued: “The documents also enable IER to identify potential victims of citizenship status discrimination and reveal trends in document collection during the employment eligibility verification process that may support an unfair documentary practices claim, which may not be apparent on the Forms I-9 themselves.”
Both the DOJ and SpaceX have declined media requests for further comment.

Mike Lindell’s Social-Media Site Frank is Now Set to Launch on April 20
MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell released details about his free speech platform that is intended to be a combination of YouTube and Twitter, adding that no one will be able to take it down from the internet.
Lindell released a video detailing some of the features of his platform, which is called “Frank Speech.”
“This is gonna be a platform like no other, it’s kinda like a YouTube Twitter combination,” said Lindell on the video.
He went on to say that he has been working on the platform for four years and invested millions of dollars into it.
“I’ve spent millions of dollars making it the most secure, we’re gonna be able to handle the capacity, your everything’s gonna be the most secure, we’re gonna be attacked, but I have my own servers and everything. We’re not gonna be worried about Amazon taking it down, or YouTube or Google, or Apple,” Lindell explained.
“And we’re gonna get our voice of free speech out there!” he added.
Lindell asked for people interested in the platform to sign up for an exclusive VIP viewing of the service on Thursday at midnight. The full platform will launch on Monday morning in an event Lindell calls the “Frankathon.”
The pro-Trump businessman has been banned from many social media platforms because of his many claims about the 2020 presidential election. He is also being sued for $1.2 billion by Dominion Voting Systems over his claims.
“You’ve never seen anything like it. You’re gonna love it, you’re gonna have your own YouTube channel, only that’s your Twitter handle, or Twitter channel, so to speak. But I’m just so excited,” Lindell continued on the Frank video.
“It’s gonna be, all of the cancels of our First Amendment we’re seeing going on right now, well guess what, it’s coming back, you’re not gonna have to worry about what you’re saying,” he said.
Lindell added that people won’t be able to use the “four swear words” on his platform, and he said that people will be prohibited from taking the Lord’s name in vain.
“Free speech is not pornography, free speech isn’t, ‘I’m gonna kill you!'” he explained.

As Republican Julia Letlow Is Sworn In, The Democrats’ Margin In The House Shrinks To Just 6 Votes
With Representative-elect Julia Letlow — a Republican in Louisiana — due to be sworn in to the House of Representatives on Wednesday morning, the Democrat Party’s majority has shrunk to just a few seats. The Democrats currently have just 218 seats to the Republican Party’s 212.
Julia Letlow won a special election in March to fill the seat which was originally won by her late-husband Luke Letlow, who passed away from COVID-19 in December before he was sworn in.
“[Letlow] took 62 percent of the vote in the 12-way race, a commanding victory that cleared the majority threshold needed to avoid a runoff. Her election brings the number of Republican women in Congress to 31 — a stunning turnaround from the end of last cycle, when there were just 13,” reported Politico in March.
Letlow’s victory hands Republicans 212 seats in the House of Representatives, placing them only 6 seats behind the Democrats’ 218 seats.
“That slim margin of error could prevent Democrats from passing more progressive bills that moderates in their party may not support,” noted Fox News, adding that the Democrats cannot lose more than two further seats before they potentially lose the ability to pass legislation — since tied votes fail in the House of Representatives.
There are three further House special elections scheduled to take place in the coming months.
On April 24, a special runoff election will be held between two Democrats vying to represent Louisiana’s 2nd Congressional District. Troy Carter and Karen Peterson will be competing to replace former Rep. Cedric Richmond, who resigned in order to join the Biden administration as senior adviser and director of the Office of Public Liaison.
On May 1, a special election will be held in Texas’ 6th Congressional District to decide who will fill the seat of Republican Rep. Ronald Wright, who died in February 2021 of COVID-19. On June 1, another special election will be held in New Mexico’s 1st Congressional District after former Democratic Rep. Debra Haaland was confirmed as interior secretary.
Democratic Rep. Marcia Fudge, who represented Ohio’s 11th Congressional District, was confirmed as Housing and Urban Development secretary, and so yet another special election will be held on November 2.
Other seats are also receiving some attention, with Politico reporting that “Rep. Alcee Hastings’ death opens up a coveted South Florida congressional seat and further narrows Democrats’ already-tenuous House majority.”
“Hastings, who died at 84 years of age, served in Congress for parts of four decades, most recently representing a majority-Black district that included parts of Broward and Palm Beach counties, including slices of Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. The race to replace him in a yet-to-be-scheduled special election sets up what will likely be intense regional jockeying among some of the area’s most prominent political figures,” Politico added.
Democrats have dismissed concerns, however, with House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) saying, “Frankly, we’re doing OK as Democrats as you look at this quarter.”

Small World: George Floyd’s Girlfriend Also Had a Connection To Daunte Wright
Nyesha Wright, the aunt of now-deceased 20-year-old Daunte Wright, on Tuesday revealed that her family has connections to the George Floyd family.
“I wear this shirt and the craziest thing is to find out today that my family has connections to this man, to this family,” she said, holding up the t-shirt, during a press conference. The shirt included a picture of George Floyd with the word “justice” underneath.
“His girlfriend was the teacher for my nephew,” she said. “My nephew was a lovable young man.”
Nyesha Wright, aunt of Daunte Wright, led family and supporters earlier today in a “say his name” chant as she delivered emotional remarks in Minnesota: “My nephew was 20 years old. I don't care what nobody got to say about him. He was loved. He was ours.” https://t.co/Z9KZLQYqpS pic.twitter.com/y117pnI3hC

Brooklyn Center police officer Kim Potter on Saturday reportedly deployed her service weapon instead of her taser, which resulted in Wright’s death. Police Chief Tim Gannon on Monday released body camera footage of the incident.
“Taser! Taser!” Officer Potter yelled in the video. She then fired her service gun.
“Oh, sh**! I shot him,” she gasped after she realized she had shot the suspect.
Based on what the bodycam footage revealed, Chief Gannon concluded the shooting was accidental.
“It is my belief that the officer had the intention to deploy their taser, but instead shot Mr. Wright with a single bullet,” Gannon said during a press conference on Monday. “This appears to me, from what I viewed, and the officer’s reaction and distress immediately after, that this was an accidental discharge that resulted in a tragic death of Mr. Wright.”
Potter, a 26-year veteran of the Brooklyn Center Police Department, announced her resignation on Tuesday, saying it was “in the best interest of the community” if she did so. Gannon’s resignation quickly followed suit and was announced during Brooklyn Center Mayor Mike Elliot’s Tuesday press conference.
Police stopped George Floyd last year on suspicion of possessing a counterfeit bill. During his interaction with Minneapolis police officers, Floyd allegedly resisted arrest. Office Derek Chauvin pressed his knee into Floyd’s neck for nearly nine minutes. Floyd later died. A medical examiner ruled Floyd died of asphyxiation related to the incident, but further testimony from the Chief Medical Examiner suggests Floyd may have been affected by drugs in his system at the time of his arrest.
As The Daily Wire previously reported, “Chief Hennepin County Medical Examiner Dr. Andrew Baker concluded George Floyd likely died from a fentanyl overdose and found ‘no physical evidence suggesting’ that he died of asphyxiation.”
Methamphetamine, in addition to fentanyl, was found in his system. On top of the drugs, Floyd also suffered from a heart condition, The Daily Wire reported. Others have claimed Floyd died from asphyxiation.
Officer Chauvin is currently on trial for second degree murder, third degree murder, and second degree manslaughter.

No Charges Against Officer Who Shot Ashli Babbitt: DOJ
The U.S. Capitol Police officer who shot dead an Air Force veteran during the tumultuous events on Jan. 6 will not be charged, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced April 14.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division decided jointly not to pursue charges against the officer.
The decision came after a “thorough investigation” into the shooting of Ashli Babbitt, a 35-year-old who joined others in storming the U.S. Capitol in Washington during a joint session of Congress in January. Babbitt was shot while trying to climb through a broken window into the Speaker’s Lobby, adjacent to the House chamber.
“Officials examined video footage posted on social media, statements from the officer involved and other officers and witnesses to the events, physical evidence from the scene of the shooting, and the results of an autopsy,” the DOJ said in a statement.
“Based on that investigation, officials determined that there is insufficient evidence to support a criminal prosecution.”
Mark Schamel, a lawyer representing the officer, told The Epoch Times in an emailed statement: “This is the only correct conclusion following the events of January 6. The lieutenant exercised professionalism and fantastic restraint in defending and protecting members of Congress.”
The officer remains unidentified in the public sphere.
“As unfortunate as it is that the lieutenant had to resort to deadly force, he fired only one shot at the only person who breached the locked doors and makeshift barricade that had been erected. He did so after clearly identifying himself and ordering the mob not to come through the barricade,” Schamel added. “He used tremendous restraint in only firing one shot, and his actions stopped the mob from breaking through and turning a horrific day in American history into something so much worse.”
Babbitt’s family was informed before the decision was publicly announced.
Terrell Roberts, an attorney for the family, told The Epoch Times that the decision was “baffling.”
“I find it to be baffling given the circumstances that it’s a clear case of shooting an unarmed person without any legal justification, but I have no idea what went into their decision,” Roberts said.
The family plans to move forward with a lawsuit against the officer for excessive use of force.
Babbitt’s death was caused by the gunshot, which hit her left shoulder, the D.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled last week. The manner of death was homicide.
The DOJ stated that its probe focused on seeing whether federal prosecutors could prove that the officer violated any federal laws.
“The investigation revealed no evidence to establish beyond a reasonable doubt that the officer willfully committed a violation of 18 U.S.C. Section 242,” it stated.
“Specifically, the investigation revealed no evidence to establish that, at the time the officer fired a single shot at Ms. Babbitt, the officer did not reasonably believe that it was necessary to do so in self-defense or in defense of the Members of Congress and others evacuating the House Chamber. Acknowledging the tragic loss of life and offering condolences to Ms. Babbitt’s family, the U.S. Attorney’s Office and U.S. Department of Justice have therefore closed the investigation into this matter.”

Nancy Pelosi Says Capitol Rioters Would Have Had a Fight on Their Hands Had They Caught Her: ‘I’m Pretty Tough. I’m a Street Fighter.’
During the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, security quickly evacuated House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) when the mob breached the building.
But if security had not gotten her out forthwith and the rioters had reached her, they would have had a fight on their hands, Pelosi told USA Today on Tuesday.
The mob that stormed the Capitol while Congress was counting Electoral College votes and formalizing the election of President Joe Biden made it clear that they wanted to find both Pelosi and then-Vice President Mike Pence. Security personnel were able to get Pelosi and Pence to safety as pro-Trump rioters sought to disrupt and stop lawmakers’ constitutional duties.
Pelosi, noting she was thankful for security agents who kept her safe as they escorted her from the House floor, told USA Today she would have put up a fight if the mob that reportedly wanted to kill her had been able to get to her.
“That’s what they were setting out to do,” she said. The paper asked her if that frightened her, and she responded, “Well, I’m pretty tough. I’m a street fighter. They would have had a battle on their hands.”
Then she lifted a foot to show the reporter her 4-inch-high stilettos, USA Today said, and added, “I would have had these” to arm herself with.
Pelosi told the paper that the trauma the mob put people through was unforgivable and that many staffers and members of Congress are still dealing with the aftereffects.
“I was never personally afraid because I had so much security for myself,” the speaker said. “I was afraid for everybody else, and I’ll never forgive them the trauma that they caused to the staff and the members.”
She added, “I do think it will have an impact on how people decide to come to work here or stay to work here.”
The riot resulted in at least five deaths, including that of Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick.

News13 hours agoSmall World: George Floyd’s Girlfriend Also Had a Connection To Daunte Wright

This country is becoming more fucked up and stupid than some third world countries. It’s already just as corrupt.
How tragic for businesses that now have to hire people based on their color, not their qualifications and not even whether they’re illegal or not… That means now illegals can easily take away our jobs even if they’re not qualified for them! How does that help this country get back on it’s feet after the pandemic and now that Biden has opened the borders?? There isn’t one Executive Order the Democrats have put forth that isn’t detrimental to this country!
Wait a minute, the Federal government itself cannot hire a non-citizen unless it can be proven there are no qualified citizens (and certainly not one that is illegal). So is this Biden’s next executive order – employers can hire illegal non-citizens to work on sensitive projects that could prove destructive to the U. S.? Let alone claim discrimination if not hired? You’ve got to be kidding. This person should be deported. Employers should have the right to withhold private employee information. If the government wants it, they can find it through other means. No wonder Musk relocated to Texas. He should take his company there too. If Texas succeeds in its succession, I’m sure he’d find it a much more pleasant place to do business.
“Now a lawful permanent resident,” meaning ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT! Why in the blue hell is the DOJ saying boo about a US company not hiring an ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT? Oh wait, hair sniffer is in the White House at the moment so illegals now are more valuable than citizens.
