A photo of U.S. Army infantry officer and West Point graduate Spenser Rapone was making its rounds online Monday due to the fact that – while in his uniform – Rapone had the words “Communism will win” scrawled inside of his cap.

In the wake of the recent NFL protests, a West Point graduate and infantry officer tweeted out the following image with the caption: “#VeteransForKaepernick” – a disgusting display from an officer.

https://twitter.com/punkproletarian/status/912065310232072192

One Twitter user noted that West Point cadets are “under contract with the DoD,” going on to state that Rapone’s actions are a “punishable offense under the UCMJ,” because Rapone is making political statements while in uniform:

Rapone runs a Twitter account called “@punkproletarian” and frequently tweets out his Communist messages:

https://twitter.com/punkproletarian/status/833536094524342272

https://twitter.com/punkproletarian/status/822247385229312000

Rapone also tweeted out a provocative message at right-wing firebrand Mike Cernovich:

https://twitter.com/punkproletarian/status/814979772027547648

Rapone didn’t have the guts to tag Cernovich, though . . .

In case you’re as shocked as everyone else and think that this is all a hoax, because who would have thought an infantry officer would disrespect our country like this, Rapone tweeted out a picture of his DSA tag:

https://twitter.com/punkproletarian/status/894782364634808320

The reality is, Rapone’s behavior is morally and legally reprehensible and a disgrace to the uniform:

He knows if he gets his commission taken away he has to serve as enlisted to pay back his education. he also knows they wont want him in the army with his beliefs or comments, so JAIL HIM !!

Biden Warns Putin ‘Not Joking’ About Using Nuclear Weapons In ‘Armageddon’ Situation

    Published

    on

President Joe Biden warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin was “not joking” about using nuclear weapons in Ukraine as the Russian military, which was widely viewed as the second most powerful military in the world before the war, is suffering battlefield losses in Ukraine.

Biden’s remarks come as a Russian military train is reportedly transporting equipment for the nation’s nuclear weapons program to the frontlines of its war with Ukraine, sparking fears that Putin could be preparing to use nuclear weapons.

The Telegraph reported that the train is “operated by the secretive nuclear division and linked to the 12th main directorate of the Russian ministry of defence.” The train, which was pictured on a Russian propaganda Telegram account, was reportedly on its way to Ukraine from central Russia.

Biden issued the warning while talking to Democrats at a fundraiser in New York Thursday night at the home of James Murdoch, the media investor.

Biden said that Putin was “not joking” about potentially using “tactical nuclear weapons or biological or chemical weapons because his military is you might say significantly underperforming.”

“We have not faced the prospect of Armageddon since Kennedy and the Cuban missile crisis,” Biden said, adding that “we have a direct threat of the use of nuclear weapons if in fact things continue down the path they are going.”

Biden added that he was trying to figure out what Putin wanted in order to save face and back out of the situation.

“I’m trying to figure out: what is Putin’s off-ramp?” Biden claimed. “Where does he find a way out?”

Biden’s warning comes after the U.S. federal government announced a $290 million purchase of Nplate, a drug that is used to treat severe radiation sickness.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced the purchase this week from Amgen, a company based in California.

“This is part of our ongoing work for preparedness and radiological security,” a spokesperson for the department claimed in a statement. “It has not been accelerated by the situation in Ukraine.”

“ARS (acute radiation syndrome), also known as radiation sickness, occurs when a person’s entire body is exposed to a high dose of penetrating radiation, reaching internal organs in a matter of seconds,” a statement from the department said. “Symptoms of ARS injuries include impaired blood clotting as a result of low platelet counts, which can lead to uncontrolled and life-threatening bleeding.

“To reduce radiation-induced bleeding, Nplate stimulates the body’s production of platelets,” the statement added. “The drug can be used to treat adults and children.”

665 FBI Employees Left Agency After Misconduct Investigations: Whistleblower Disclosure

    Published

    on

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said he obtained internal records from a whistleblower alleging 665 FBI employees retired or resigned following misconduct investigations to avoid receiving final disciplinary letters.

Grassley said the whistleblower — whom he did not name — provided an internal Justice Department report that indicated the employees left between 2004 and 2020 and included 45 senior-level employees.

“The allegations and records paint a disgraceful picture of abuse that women within the FBI have had to live with for many years,” Grassley wrote in a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland.

“This abuse and misconduct is outrageous and beyond unacceptable,” Grassley continued.

Grassley’s office said Justice Department officials created the report following an Associated Press story in 2020 that revealed sexual conduct allegations among senior officials in the bureau.

The alleged report states the 665 employees left following “alleged misconduct,” but it did not specify it as sexual misconduct, although the document is titled as such.

His office suggested the actual figure could be larger, because the data doesn’t include departures that occurred during or just prior to the start of misconduct investigations.

The Associated Press investigation that apparently spawned the report’s creation found that the bureau opted to transfer those facing accusations or allow them to retire.

Doing so allows those employees to keep their pensions and benefits as officials investigate the allegations and maintain anonymity after the process concludes.

Grassley also said he received a second document from the whistleblower that analyzes Wray’s implementation of a zero-tolerance policy on sexual misconduct, detailing “inconsistent adjudication.”

“Recent sexual misconduct cases appear to show [the Office of Professional Responsibility]’s application of this directive has resulted in seemingly random penalties and disparate treatment, potentially compromising the consistency, fairness and due process of the FBI’s disciplinary system,” the document allegedly states.

The report suggests nonsupervisors face greater penalties in sexual misconduct cases, while supervisors receive more lenient punishments.

“Congress has an obligation to perform an objective and independent review of the Justice Department’s and FBI’s failures and determine the accuracy of the data contained in the documents so that the American people know and understand what, if any, changes have been made to solve these significant problems,” Grassley wrote in his letter.

WATCH: Tucker Carlson Visits a Defiant Kanye West at His Yeezy Office, West Posts to Instagram

“Tucker Carlson stopped by the new Yeezy Office. Fun,” West captioned video of the visit. “God is Good.”

West has refused to toe the Democrat Party line for years, most notably meeting with President Donald Trump in 2018 wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat, and tweeting, “I love the way Candace Owens thinks,” the same year.

More recently, West, alongside Daily Wire host Candace Owens, donned shirts with the phrase “White Lives Matter” emblazoned on their backs, setting the internet on fire.

Despite some loud critics and a threat from Adidas to drop him, West defended his attire and slammed the Black Lives Matter movement as a “scam.”

“Everyone knows that Black Lives Matter was a scam,” the 45-year-old posted to Instagram, where he has nearly 18 million followers. “Now it’s over. You’re welcome.”

The BLM movement has opposed law enforcement while promoting other radical ideas, like the disruption of the nuclear family.

“We are unapologetically Black in our positioning,” the group’s “what we believe” page said. “In affirming that Black Lives Matter, we need not qualify our position. To love and desire freedom and justice for ourselves is a prerequisite for wanting the same for others.”

Moreover, the fashion designer last month made headlines when he took aim at the validity of the holiday Kwanzaa, The Daily Wire reported.

“They teach black kids Kwanzaa at Sierra Canyon,” West said in a now-deleted post, referring to a private school in Chatsworth. “What the f*** is Kwanzaa and who made that bulls*** up? Everyone lives in LA for the check anyway so no one really cares about their children being indoctrinated.”

Kwanzaa was created by black activist Maulana Karenga in 1966; in 1971, he was convicted of felonious assault and false imprisonment. He currently serves as chairman of the Africana Studies Department at California State University, Long Beach. The Kwanzaa festival is observed starting the day after Christmas for seven days and involves celebrating seven Swahili values; a candle is lit each day on a candleholder.

Tom Brady Responds To His Wife Subtle Statement Amid Marital Woes

    Published

    on

Legendary NFL quarterback Tom Brady responded to wife Gisele Bündchen’s subtle statement this week of not wearing her wedding ring with his own subtle statement — also not wearing his wedding ring.

Bündchen, 42, was spotted by the New York Post’s Page Six in Miami Wednesday with her son Benjamin, 12, and daughter Vivian, 9, both of whom she shares with Brady.

Brady responded with his subtle statement in an Instagram video that he posted Thursday about his fitness brand, TB12.

In the video, Brady can be seen moving his left hand in front of the camera with no wedding ring on.

News broke this week that Brady and Bündchen have both hired divorce lawyers, capping months of speculation that their marriage was on the rocks. The tipping point appears to have been a very recent, very nasty squabble.

“I never actually thought this argument would be the end of them, but it looks like it is,” a source told the New York Post’s Page Six. “I don’t think there will be any coming back now. They both have lawyers and are looking at what a split will entail, who gets what and what the finances will be.”

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback and seven-time Super Bowl champ hinted at problems on the homefront when he left training camp in August. But he returned to lead the team to a 2-2 record and a first-place perch in the NFC South Division.

TMZ reported late Tuesday evening that the two have been searching for divorce lawyers “for weeks,” and the marriage, at least at this point, “is beyond saving,” according to sources who spoke to the publication. Sources told the publication that if divorce papers are filed, the proceedings will take place in Florida.

The ageless Brady, still one of the NFL’s top quarterbacks at an unheard of 45, announced he was retiring earlier this year, but then changed his mind to return for another season. Bündchen made it clear she wanted him to hang up his cleats, but she seemed to understand he was happier on the gridiron, as The Daily Wire reported.

In an interview with Elle, Bündchen said the characterization that she was desperate for Brady to quit playing football was sexist.

“Obviously, I have my concerns—this is a very violent sport, and I have my children and I would like him to be more present,” she said. “I have definitely had those conversations with him over and over again. But ultimately, I feel that everybody has to make a decision that works for [them]. He needs to follow his joy, too.”

For his part, Brady, who vanished from training camp for 11 days in August, said last month on his “Let’s Go” podcast that he was starting to get nostalgic as his 23-year career winds down.

“As you get older, life changes quite a bit,” he told sportscaster Jim Gray. “There’s different responsibilities that take form in your life. There’s different perspectives you gain.”

“I’m just really feeling intensely my emotions,” he continued. “And I feel like I always have that, but I think when you get close to the end – and I don’t know exactly where I’m at with that, but there’s no decision to be made, it’s not like I have 10 years left, I definitely don’t have that.”

‘WWE Tough Enough’ Winner Dead at 30

    Published

    on

“WWE: Tough Enough” winner Sara Lee passed away on Thursday at the age of 30, her family confirmed in a heartbreaking post on social media.

Terri Lee, the wrestler’s mother, shared a post announcing that her daughter had passed away and asked for privacy as well as prayers for the husband and children she left behind.

A screenshot of the post was shared to Twitter by @WrestleOps along with a caption reading, “‘WWE Tough Enough’ 2015 winner, Sara Lee has sadly passed away at the age of 30, as shared by her mother on Facebook. Heartbreaking.”

“It is with heavy hearts we wanted to share that our Sara Weston has gone to be with Jesus,” Terri Lee wrote. “We are all in shock and arrangements are not complete. We ask that you respectfully let our family mourn. We all need prayers especially Cory and her children.”

Lee left behind a husband, Cory James Weston — who previously wrestled with the WWE under the name Wesley Blake — and three children, two of whom she shares with Weston.

She made her own mark on the wrestling circuit when she became the surprise winner in the sixth season of “WWE: Tough Enough” in 2015 — coming back from potential elimination five times — a win that scored her $250,000 and a one-year contract with the company. She was later released from that contract in 2016, but reportedly continued to train on her own.

“Sara Lee, who won the last season of WWE Tough Enough in 2015, has sadly passed away at just 30. She only said one day ago how she was feeling well enough after a sinus infection to go to the gym. She was married to Wesley Blake & the pair have young children together. So sad,” Louis Dangoor posted.

WWE star Sonya Deville shared a GoFundMe for Lee’s family, adding, “Absolutely heart breaking, life is too short. Sara was awesome, sending love and prayers to her family and loved ones.”

WWE referee Shawn Bennett shared the fundraiser as well, saying, “Heartbroken for the Weston Family. Sara Lee was one of the sweetest people I’ve met and her smile lit up a room. My love and hope for strength goes to Cory, and their three beautiful children.”

WATCH: Dr. Phil Spars with ‘Body Positivity’ Activist Who Rejects Science from ‘Middle-Aged White’ Doctors

    Published

    on

“Dr. Phil” McGraw had an intense show on Wednesday debating whether there was a correlation between obesity and health problems.

Dr. Phil spoke with a guest and multiple experts about a crisis facing the nation in an episode titled, “Has the Body Positivity Movement Gone Too Far?” Dr. Phil asked his “body positivity” activist guest, “Would you agree that being obese or being morbidly obese puts you at risk for diseases at a higher level than if you were at a lesser weight and everything else was constant?”

Lexi the activist replied, “I would disagree with you from my personal experience, and from what I know working in the body positivity movement for the past few years, and hearing other people’s accounts.”

Dr. Phil responded with a litany of damning statistics.

“So you would reject the science?” Dr. Phil asked. “The current science says that you are seven times higher risk for diabetes, certain kinds of cancer, sleep apnea, six times higher for high blood pressure, four times higher for arthritis, three times higher for asthma, that you’re higher risk for high cholesterol, inflammation, coronary artery disease. And if you have high blood pressure, you’re 200 to 300 percent more at risk for a stroke.”

Lexi claimed, “I have none of those issues. I have no indicators of those issues being anywhere on the horizon. I am perfectly healthy. Even if I weren’t, I’m obviously still entitled to dignity and respect, which is my main pillar of belief and what I talk about most often.”

She then pivoted to target the race and gender of the scientists who have done the research.

“Despite what you believe the science to reflect, you are very obviously rejecting the truth, which is that there is science that opposes that belief. There are so many scientists and so many doctors who are middle-aged white men. And my body is very different,” she said.

While Dr. Phil treated the guest with respect, he brought up his own family history of struggling with obesity.

“My issue is if somebody that is overweight is out telling people this is not a high risk situation. And I say that because of the science, and it means something to me,” Dr. Phil explained. “Because I’ve buried a nephew that was morbidly obese at 50. I’ve buried a nephew that was morbidly obese in his 40s. I’ve buried two aunts that were morbidly obese in their 40s. My entire family has been morbidly obese, and I’ve buried them all in their 40s and 50s.”

He concluded, “I think it is dangerous for people to be out there saying this is not an at-risk condition. And I do not endorse it.”

School Counselor Admits to Sex with Trans Student in Virginia District Rocked By Bathroom Rape

    Published

    on

A Virginia school counselor pleaded guilty last month to having a years-long sexual relationship with a transgender student in the same district where a skirt-wearing student’s rape of a classmate in a bathroom made national headlines.

Ann Marie Barrett, 43, who is married with two children, was reported by the victim in May 2021, but not arrested until six months later — one day after Republican Glenn Youngkin was elected governor in a huge upset driven by his strong stance on school safety. Although the bathroom rape, first reported by The Daily Wire, animated Youngkin’s race against Terry McAuliffe, the Republican sheriff said the curious timing of Barrett’s arrest had nothing to do with the election.

“I think it’s a coincidence,” Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman told The Daily Wire. “It was actually a very detailed investigation, we had to go back several years from 2016 to 2013. We had to go do a lot of interviews.”

The victim, a biological female, spent three years at Freedom High School before graduating in 2015, according to the plea agreement. Barrett was a guidance counselor, and was assigned to the victim.

“[The victim was] transgender and was living as a male when he began at Freedom High School,” the plea agreement said. “He began the physical and hormonal transition process while he attended Freedom High School.”

After the victim’s sophomore year, Barrett invited the student to go to a playground with her child. Eventually, she invited the student to her house where they “cuddled while watching television. This occurred two or three times, and then progressed to kissing, and then to digital penetration and oral sex,” the plea deal said.

The relationship continued throughout the victim’s time at the school and included Barrett providing the student with passes to get out of class and visit her office. The victim returned to the school in May 2021 for a visit as an adult, and told a teacher what occurred “to ensure that it would not happen to anyone else.”

The teacher told police that the victim “had spent an unusual amount of time with the accused, who would email … teachers to inform them he would not be in class.” The report led to Barrett’s being placed on leave, the quiet, six-month investigation, and the September 16 guilty plea.

“My client has accepted responsibility for this consensual relationship,” Barrett’s attorney, William “Ben” Mann, told The Daily Wire.

The role of school counselors in the lives of gender-confused students has been in the spotlight in recent times. Earlier this week, The Daily Wire reported that a top National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) official, who also works in Northern Virginia, participated in a transgender group that said it would send cash and transportation to children who wanted to leave their homes, and “find you someone who can provide you a kind and affirming home.”

Amy Cannava is chair of NASP’s LGBTQI2-S Committee and has provided training to other psychologists on LGBT issues. On NASP’s website, she suggested that school administrators should shield counselors who were in violation of a pending Virginia state policy saying that schools should not hide a student’s gender transition from parents.

Cannava described the draft policy, which permits schools to call transgender students by new names and pronouns, but only with permission from parents, “horrific.”

A group affiliated with Cannava, Safe Space NOVA, said it did not support the rehoming of students. But she has previously made comments relevant to the topic.

On a podcast called “Out, What Now?” Cannava said “I recognize that parental consent is a big deal, but when I’m doing anything LGBT, I don’t worry about that. … Let’s be honest, it’s an electronic permission slip. You type in a parent’s name and I’m like ‘oh that parent signed consent.’ There’s no actual signature.”

“You have to sometimes break rules to do good for kids,” she said.

Cannava, who said she is “queer” and attracted to “trans-masculine non-binary folx,” said “I had a record day where five kids came out to me. I said ‘this is amazing’ … Most of the time it’s like, ‘I think I’m trans,’ which really means ‘I am trans.’”

She has the backing of the association.

“When our ethical standards are in conflict with policy or law, our standards encourage school psychologists to advocate for change in such policies/laws,” a NASP spokesperson said. “Advocacy is not breaking the law. Amy is not in violation of either the law or our standards.”

Biden Pardons Thousands With Federal Convictions For Drug Crimes

    Published

    on

President Joe Biden announced Thursday afternoon that he was pardoning thousands of people who had prior federal convictions for possessing marijuana, and he urged governors to do the same at the state level.

Biden said that people being held accountable for choosing to violate marijuana laws “has upended too many lives and incarcerated people for conduct that many states no longer prohibit.”

“Criminal records for marijuana possession have also imposed needless barriers to employment, housing, and educational opportunities,” he said.

“And while white and Black and brown people use marijuana at similar rates, Black and brown people have been arrested, prosecuted, and convicted at disproportionate rates.”

“I am announcing a pardon of all prior Federal offenses of simple possession of marijuana,” Biden said.

“I have directed the Attorney General to develop an administrative process for the issuance of certificates of pardon to eligible individuals. There are thousands of people who have prior Federal convictions for marijuana possession, who may be denied employment, housing, or educational opportunities as a result.”

Next, Biden urged all governors to do the same, saying that if people should not be “in a local jail or state prison for that reason.”

Biden also said that he was directing his Health and Human Services secretary and the attorney general to initiate a review process looking at how marijuana is scheduled under federal law.

Biden issued the pardon for the thousands of convicts moments after he posted the statement announcing his decision.

“My intent by this proclamation is to pardon only the offense of simple possession of marijuana in violation of Federal law or in violation of D.C. Code 48–904.01(d)(1), and not any other offenses related to marijuana or other controlled substances,” the proclamation stated.

“Pursuant to this proclamation, the Attorney General, acting through the Pardon Attorney, shall administer and effectuate the issuance of certificates of pardon to eligible applicants who have been charged or convicted for the offense of simple possession of marijuana in violation of the Controlled Substances Act.”

Washington Post: Feds Have Enough Evidence To Charge Hunter Biden With Multiple Crimes

    Published

    on

Federal prosecutors have reportedly gathered enough information to charge President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, with multiple crimes related to taxes and lying to investigators about a firearm purchase.

The Washington Post reported that federal agents “determined months ago” that they had a viable criminal case against the president’s son, but the agents do not have the ability to file charges. That ability lies solely with the U.S. Attorney in Delaware, a holdover from the Trump administration at the U.S. Justice Department

Now U.S. Attorney in Delaware, David C. Weiss, must determine whether to file criminal charges against 52-year-old Hunter Biden.

The federal criminal investigation into Hunter Biden began in 2018 and focused on financial matters stemming from his overseas business dealings. As the investigation grew, multiple agencies scrutinized whether he paid all the taxes that he was required to and whether he lied on an ATF Form 4473 background check while purchasing a firearm.

“A prosecutor can say they have bigger fish to catch, or they can decide to seek a deal,” Joseph G. Green, a retired ATF agent, said. “As agents, we would always include as many charges as we could, but it’s ultimately up to the prosecutor to decide which ones they will bring.”

Fox News and CNN reported back in July that Weiss’s office was weighing charging Hunter Biden with a variety of crimes related to tax violations, lying on the gun background check form, and possible foreign lobbying crimes.

Hunter Biden’s attorney was furious over the report, saying that any federal agent that leaked information to The Washington Post committed a felony.

“It is a federal felony for a federal agent to leak information about a Grand Jury investigation such as this one,” attorney Chris Clark said in a statement. “Any agent you cite as a source in your article apparently has committed such a felony. We expect the Department of Justice will diligently investigate and prosecute such bad actors. As is proper and legally required, we believe the prosecutors in this case are diligently and thoroughly weighing not just evidence provided by agents, but also all the other witnesses in this case, including witnesses for the defense. That is the job of the prosecutors. They should not be pressured, rushed, or criticized for doing their job.”

A group of over 30 GOP senators wrote a letter to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland last month pushing for a special counsel to protect the ongoing Department of Justice (DOJ) investigation into Hunter Biden from politicization. The senators cited whistleblower accounts alleging that top officials at the FBI quashed concerning reports about the Biden scion prior to the 2020 election.

Elon Musk Lawyers Say Twitter Refusing New $44 B Bid for Company

    Published

    on

A tentative agreement reached earlier this week for Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk to purchase Twitter has reportedly stalled, with Musk’s lawyers claiming that Twitter has refused to accept the proposal.

The announcement comes just two days after Musk and Twitter announced plans to “close the transaction” at the original $44 billion price set in an April 2022 deal.

Twitter eventually sued Musk to force him to comply with the terms of that initial deal, after Musk repeatedly attempted to escape it, but Musk’s lawyers now ask that the Oct. 17 trial be halted, according to a filing by Musk’s lawyers, claiming Twitter is now refusing to accept the deal.

Shortly after Musk’s lawyers filed the request, a Delaware judge ordered a stay on the lawsuit until on Oct. 28 to permit the parties to close the deal, according to a Thursday court filing. The decision was made over Twitter’s objections, with the social media giant arguing that agreements with Musk’s team did not guarantee the deal closed in time.

“Twitter will not take yes for an answer,” the filing by Musk’s lawyers reads. “Astonishingly, they have insisted on proceeding with this litigation, recklessly putting the deal at risk and gambling with their stockholders’ interests.”

Lawyers for both Musk and Twitter were working on the details of the deal as recently as Thursday morning, according to the WSJ. Both sides were seeking to halt the proposed trial to allow for more time to complete a deal, but the dialogue between the two had the potential to “change quickly,” the WSJ reported, citing an anonymous source familiar with the matter.

Shares of Twitter shot up dramatically after the tentative deal was announced earlier this week, netting some investors massive windfalls in the process, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Republican Senator Ben Sasse To Resign: Report

    Published

    on

U.S. Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE) is reportedly going to resign from his position to pursue a new opportunity outside of elected office.

NewsRadio 1110 KFAB’s Ian Swanson, a former staffer for Sasse, broke the news, saying that Sasse was going to pursue an opportunity in higher education, adding that the resignation was not expected to happen immediately.

“[Senator Sasse] will imminently announce his intent to resign from the U.S. Senate to pursue another opportunity in higher education,” Swanson wrote on Twitter. “While the process could take a bit, the announcements are expected ‘imminently.’”

“I want to be clear here: this is a process that will take time, so the resignation will not take effect today,” he added. “The process will be announced today, and I am told to expect the resignation to actually be made official in December.”

Aaron Sanderford, a reporter with the Nebraska Examiner, reported that if Sasse does indeed resign that his seat would be filled by gubernatorial appointment.

“His replacement would serve from now until early 2025,” Sanderson said. “That would mean Nebraska could have both Senate seats up in the same presidential election year, 2024.”

Shortly after the news broke of Sasse’s forthcoming retirement, the senator revealed that he will become the next president at the University of Florida.

“The University of Florida is uniquely positioned to lead this country through an era of disruption,” Sasse said in a statement. “The single biggest challenge our nation faces is the radical disruption of work. Technology is changing everything about where, when, why, what, and how Americans work and so it’s changing our homes, neighborhoods, and communities too.”

Sasse said that he has been courted by top universities over the last couple of years, but that he and his wife had resisted attempts to lure him out of the Senate.

Sasse said this time was different though because he views the University of Florida as “the most interesting university in America right now.”

“Melissa and I have been pursued by wonderful institutions the past two years, but we’ve resisted being named a finalist,” Sasse said. “This time is different because the University of Florida is very different: I think Florida is the most interesting university in America right now.”

The University of Florida said in a statement that they spent months carefully vetting hundreds of applicants for the role and that the school’s 15-member presidential search committee “unanimously recommended United States Senator Dr. Ben Sasse as the sole finalist to become the University of Florida’s 13th president.”

“Dr. Sasse currently serves as a U.S. Senator from Nebraska and is a former college president, highly accomplished scholar and nationally recognized authority on higher education,” the school said.

2 Dead, Multiple Injured in Mass Stabbing Attack on Las Vegas Showgirls

    Published

    on

A violent stabbing attack left two people dead and at least eight others injured in Las Vegas Thursday.

Some of the victims were showgirls taking pictures with tourists, bystanders told Fox 5.

Sheriff Joseph Lombardo told reporters on the scene there had been eight victims; two had died and three were in critical condition in a hospital.

He added a suspect was in custody and a kitchen knife had been recovered from the scene.

The attack began around 11:42 a.m. local time on South Las Vegas Boulevard, near the Wynn Las Vegas and the Resorts World Casino, both major resorts in the city, according to Police.

Reporter Joe Moeller at local station KTNV Tweeted: “I’m speaking with a woman who says 4 injured showgirls work for her. She says the suspect had a knife & claimed he was a chef & wanted to take a picture with the showgirls, when they said no that is when the stabbings started.”

A tourist from Montreal, Canada told the Las Vegas Review-Journal said he saw “a lot of blood on the ground.”

“There was one showgirl on the ground,” Pierre Fandrich said in French. “There was another showgirl on top of her, trying to help her friend. She seemed to be stabbed in the back, but she didn’t notice because she was helping the other showgirl.”

Video posted to Twitter from the Las Vegas strip showed paramedics urgently pushing a medical bed with one victim wearing a red-feathered skirt on it while tourists looked shocked on the streets.

Officials have not provided more details but advised those in the area to avoid the scene. They said there is no threat to the public at this time.

Trump’s First Big Ad Buys In Midterm Elections Revealed

    Published

    on

A PAC supported by former President Donald J. Trump has officially entered the 2022 midterm election ad market in support of Republican Senate candidates in both Ohio and Pennsylvania, according to Politico.

Per the D.C.-area paper, MAGA Inc., has purchased more than a quarter of a million dollars in ads in Columbus and Cleveland. AdImpact, which provided the numbers for Politico, also noted that the PAC has bought $135,650 worth of ads placed in Pittsburgh.

During each state’s GOP primary, Trump endorsed Dr. Mehmet Oz in Pennsylvania and JD Vance in Ohio. Both political outsiders won their contest and are now battling Democratic opponents in the general election.

In Pennsylvania, several polls show that Democratic candidate Lt. Governor John Fetterman’s lead over Oz is narrowing. Emerson Polling revealed that Fetterman had a five-point lead in June, but that has since shrunk to just two points.

In September, Trump blasted Fetterman as “a spoiled and entitled socialist loser who leeched off his parents’ money — you know he lives on his parents’ money — until he was 49 years old.”

The lieutenant governor — who bills himself as a progressive friend of the working class — survived his 13-year tenure as mayor of Braddock, Pennsylvania, thanks to his parents’ money. Fetterman, 53, was elected in 2006 and left the position in 2019 after being elected to his current position. In 2015 alone, his parents gave him $54,000, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. As mayor, Fetterman received a $1,800 salary. For his part, Fetterman has stated that his family’s generosity allowed him to serve the public.

In the Buckeye State, FiveThirtyEight reports that Vance is trailing Representative Tim Ryan (D-OH) by two points, per a polling average.

Ryan has also been fundraising in recent weeks. The congressman used the House of Representatives’ lax proxy voting rules regarding COVID, yet traveled all the way to Hollywood for ritzy campaign events.

“Tim Ryan claimed he skipped work today ‘due to the ongoing public health emergency,’” GOP Senate candidate JD Vance’s Press Secretary Luke Schroeder tweeted in response Wednesday. “He’s actually headed to California to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars from Hollywood elites.”

MAGA Inc., reportedly has $100 million in the bank, and some critics have accused the former president of not spending it wisely.

An anonymous official shot down that idea and told Politico, “We don’t telegraph ad spends or our strategy.”

Do They Know Something We Don’t? US Stocks Up on $300M Worth of Radiation Sickness Drug

    Published

    on

The US has stocked up on radiation sickness drugs just weeks after Vladimir Putin threatened to use nuclear weapons against the West.

Officials said the deal — worth $290million — was ‘part of ongoing work’ and ‘has not been accelerated’ by the Kremlin leader’s escalating rhetoric.

The US Health and Human Services (HHS) – whose motto is to ‘improve the health, safety, and well-being of America – announced the purchase of romiplostim Tuesday.

Sold under the brand name Nplate, it is used to reduce bleeding caused by acute radiation syndrome (ARS), also known as radiation sickness.

Putin issued a chilling warning late last month that he was prepared to use Russia’s nuclear arsenal to protect Ukrainian territory annexed after sham referendums.

But the US Health and Human Services (HHS) said the drug order was ‘part of ongoing work’ and ‘has not been accelerated’ by Putin’s warning.

However, the timing will likely raise questions given that this is the first time the US Government has bought Nplate.

It is unclear how many doses the order covers, but the drug normally fetches between $1,000 and $2,500 per dose.

Radiation sickness occurs when a person’s whole body is exposed to a high dose of penetrating radiation, which reaches internal organs in seconds.

It can leave people with low platelet counts, causing impaired blood clotting and leading to ‘uncontrolled and life-threatening bleeding’.

Nplate – made by California pharmaceutical company Amgen – stems bleeding by stimulating the body’s production of platelets, and can be used in both adults and children.

It can also be used to treat patients with immune thrombocytopenia, a blood condition causing low platelet counts.

The HHS said the buying of the drug was due to its ‘long-standing, ongoing efforts to be better prepared to save lives following radiological and nuclear emergencies’ and not a response to Russia’s president.

‘This is part of our ongoing work for preparedness and radiological security. It has not been accelerated by the situation in Ukraine,’ it added in a statement.

The US has kept a supply of Leukine, another drug which treats ARS, since 2013, incase of a nuclear event.

As well as Leukine and Nplate, two other drugs are approved by the US Food and Drug Administration to treat acute radiation exposure – Amgen’s Neupogen and Neulasta.

Nplate is approved for use in Europe and the UK to treat immune thrombocytopenia, but not injuries resulting from radiation exposure.

Putin also ordered the mobilization of 300,000 military reserves – a first in Russia since the Second World War – and gave the go-ahead for referendums to be held in occupied areas of Ukraine that would make them a part of Russia, in the Kremlin’s eyes at least.

In a televised statement on September 21, he vowed to use ‘all means’ to defend the regions, saying: ‘If the territorial integrity of our country is threatened, we will use all available means to protect Russia and our people – this is not a bluff… I shall stress – by all means available to us.

‘Those trying to blackmail us with nuclear weapons should know that the tables can turn on them.’

Tom Brady’s Wife Makes Subtle Public Statement Amid Speculation Couple Is Getting Divorced

    Published

    on

Tom Brady’s supermodel wife made a subtle public gesture on Wednesday when she was photographed no longer wearing her wedding ring while in public with her children.

Gisele Bündchen, 42, was spotted by the New York Post’s Page Six in Miami with her son Benjamin, 12, and daughter Vivian, 9, both of whom she shares with Brady.

A divorce would not leave either in the poorhouse. The future Hall of Famer, whose salary is $26.5 million per year, has earned over $300 million during his career, plus endorsements from brands like Tag Heuer and Under Armour. Bündchen, 42, who was among the world’s highest-paid runway walkers when she married Brady, is reportedly worth even more than her husband.

The pair owns homes around the country, including a $17 million mansion on Indian Creek Island in Miami; a $3.6 million condo in New York’s Tony Tribeca neighborhood; a $5.7 million spread in Montana; and a vacation home on the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica.

Tennessee Republican Airlifted to Memphis Hospital After Car Crash

    Published

    on

Tennessee Republican state Rep. Ron Gant was airlifted to a Memphis hospital late on Wednesday night after surviving a head-on collision with a driver in Hardeman County.

Sheriff John Doolen says that around 6 p.m., officers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 18, just south of Hickory Valley.

“There was one fatality on the scene. Rep. Gant was flown to Regional One Hospital in Memphis. Tennessee Highway Patrol is leading this investigation. No further information about his condition or the accident has been released at this time. A family member of the deceased told ABC24 that one victim was killed as a result of the accident,” local ABC 24 reported.

Several lawmakers weighed in on social media following the news.

“On behalf of the TNGOP we are praying for Leader Ron Gant as he recovers from a serious car accident. Our thoughts and prayers go to him and his family. Prayers from the entire caucus tonight for Gant. Ron is a fighter and we are with him,” the Tennessee GOP Party said in a statement released to social media on Thursday morning.

“Sending prayers to me friend,” said Senator London Lamar.

Tennessee Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn tweeted: “Please join me in praying for my friend, @RonGant, who was in a serious car accident tonight. May God bring quick healing to Ron and comfort to his loved ones.”

Federal Appeals Court Rules DACA Is Illegal — Biden Responds

    Published

    on

The long, litigious and tangled history of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program took another turn Wednesday when a federal appeals court ruled the program is illegal.

However, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals also allowed the nearly 600,000 people in the program to avoid deportation, according to The New York Times.

DACA was created by the stroke of a pen in 2012 by then-President Barack Obama. Its purpose was to allow illegal immigrants who entered the country as children along with their parents to avoid deportation.

Obama and other Democrats called those enrolled in the program “Dreamers” in reference to the 2001 Dream Act, the first legislative effort to address how the nation should deal with illegal immigrants who entered the U.S. as children.

DACA enrollees are about 26 years old on average, with the oldest participants in their late 30s.

With the ruling coming roughly one month before the midterm elections, President Joe Biden used it as a chance to attack Republicans.

“My Administration is committed to defending Dreamers against attacks from Republican officials in Texas and other states. This challenge to DACA is just another example of the extreme agenda being pushed by MAGA-Republican officials,” Biden said in a statement.

“Today’s decision is the result of continued efforts by Republican state officials to strip DACA recipients of the protections and work authorization that many have now held for over a decade,” the president said.

“And while we will use the tools we have to allow Dreamers to live and work in the only country they know as home, it is long past time for Congress to pass permanent protections for Dreamers, including a pathway to citizenship.”

The DACA program has been controversial from the start, with multiple lawsuits filed against it on various grounds.

The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals was considering a July 2021 ruling from U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen, who said DACA was illegal because it violated the federal Administrative Procedures Act, according to Fox News.

The appellate court’s ruling is far from the last word. It sent the case back to a district court to consider the legality of a Biden administration policy crafted by the Department of Homeland Security to keep the program alive.

“DACA’s deficiencies are severe. The district court’s excellent opinion correctly identified fundamental substantive defects in the program,” Chief Judge Priscilla Richman wrote.

“The DACA Memorandum contradicts significant portions of the INA,” Richman said, referring to the 2012 document authorizing the program and the 1952 Immigration and Naturalization Act.

The ruling said that “DACA violates the substantive requirements of the APA.”

“DACA creates a new class of otherwise removable aliens who may obtain lawful presence, work authorization, and associated benefits. Congress determined which aliens can receive these benefits, and it did not include DACA recipients among them,” Richman said.

“The legal questions that DACA presents are serious, both to the parties and to the public. In our view, the defendants have not shown that there is a likelihood that they will succeed on the merits,” the ruling said. In this case, the Biden administration and its allies were the defendants.

DACA Ruling by The Western Journal

The court said that those enrolled in the DACA program could remain.

“We also recognize that DACA has had profound significance to recipients and many others in the ten years since its adoption. Given the ‘uncertainty of final disposition’ and the ‘inevitable disruption that would arise from a lack of continuity and stability,’ we preserve the stay as to existing recipients,” the ruling said.

Supreme Court Ditches Massachusetts Gun Law

    Published

    on

The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) on Monday did away with a Massachusetts gun law concentrated on individuals obtaining a firearm license, dealing its second blow to gun control after rejecting a New York concealed carry law in June.

The case, Morin v. Lyver, centered around plaintiff Alfred Morin, who was prohibited from obtaining a new firearm license due to his two out-of-state convictions for weapons possession, the New York Post reported. Massachusetts law sets heavy limitations on the purchase and possession of firearms if the would-be owner was previously convicted of nonviolent misdemeanors, the outlet noted.

After reviewing the law, SCOTUS chose to vacate the regulation, the court order stated. The court then remanded the legislation to the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit for further consideration, referencing the June ruling of New York State Rifle & Pistol Assn., Inc. v. Bruen.

In the case of New York State Rifle & Pistol Association., Inc. v. Bruen, SCOTUS struck down a New York State law that called for individuals to show “proper cause” before acquiring a concealed carry permit. The decision came after Rensselaer County, New York, residents Robert Nash and Brandon Koch were denied concealed carry permits after they failed to satisfy the state’s “proper cause” requirement when seeking to carry a firearm in public for general self-defense, according to the SCOTUS file.

“After reviewing the Anglo-American history of public carry, the Court concludes that respondents have not met their burden to identify an American tradition justifying New York’s proper-cause requirement,” Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas wrote in the court’s 6-3 majority opinion in June.

Biden DOJ Cracks Down on Pro-Lifers, Indicts 11 Activists for Protesting Outside Abortion Clinic

    Published

    on

The Department of Justice indicted 11 pro-life activists who protested outside a Tennessee abortion clinic Wednesday, saying they violated the FACE Act.

The activists, according to the indictment, organized an event blockading an abortion clinic near Nashville earlier this year. The DOJ alleges the group physically prevented both employees of the clinic and at least one would-be patient from entering the building in early March. The federal FACE Act prohibits demonstrators from blocking access to abortion clinics.

The DOJ charged seven of the protesters with “conspiracy against rights secured by the FACE Act,” including Chester Gallagher, 73; Paul Vaughn, 55; Heather Idoni, 58; Calvin Zastrow, 57; Caroline Davis, 24; Coleman Boyd, 51; Dennis Green, 56.

The indictment also charged four others with committing FACE Act violations: Eva Edl, 87; Eva Zastro, 24; James Zastro, 25; and Paul Place, 24.

Those charged with conspiracy face up to 11 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Those charged with FACE Act violations face up to one year in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

The DOJ alleges the protesters planned a “blockade” at the Carafem Health Center Clinic and “blocked the clinic’s entry doors and prevented a patient and an employee from entering.”

The DOJ also states that Boyd livestreamed the incident on social media and that footage showed members of the group “attempting to engage a patient and her companion as Boyd told his livestream audience that the patient was a ‘mom coming to kill her baby.’”

The charges come weeks after the FBI raided the home of a Catholic pro-life activist in Pennsylvania, alleging that he had assaulted a man outside an abortion clinic earlier this year.

Mark Houck, 48, woke to find more than a dozen FBI agents outside his family’s home with their guns drawn on Sept. 23.

While President Biden’s DOJ has aggressively prosecuted pro-life activists, it has made no arrests in the at least 17 incidents of vandalism and arson against pro-life clinics committed by the radical abortion group “Jane’s Revenge.”

Houck also faces 11 years of prison, including up to three years of supervised release and up to $350,000 in fines.
